किसी भी गीत में राग को पहचानने का यानी कि कौन सा गीत किस राग पर आधारित है तो उसको पहचानने का सबसे आसान तरीका ये है सबसे पहले आपको राग सीखने पड़ेंगे।आप को कम से कम 20-25 राग सीखने पड़ेंगे और वो राग कौन-कौन से हैं, उस पर मैंने एक वीडियो भी बनाई हुई है जिसका नाम है सिंगर बनने के लिए कितने राग सीखें ? और इसी वेबसाइट पर एक पोस्ट भी लिखी हुई है जिसका नाम है 'Which and how many ragas to learn to become a singer or musician?  आप उन रागों का बड़े अच्छे तरीके से सीख लें समझ लें और जो उनके राग की जे धुन होती है उसको अपने दिमाग में बिठा लें  फिर जब भी आप कोई गीत सुनेंगे तो आप यह ध्यान देना कि जो उस  राग के स्वर होते हैं और जो उस गीत की धुन होती है, वह बिल्कुल ही मैच करते हैं,जैसे मैं मिसाल के तौर पर आपको बताऊं कि 'दिल के अरमां आंसुओं में बह गए' अगर यह गीत आप हरमोनियम बजाऐंगे तो आप तो आप बडी धयान से सुनना उसकी जो धुन हैं वो राग शिवरंजनी से बिल्कुल मैच करती हैं।ऐसे ही अगर आप 'लागा चुनरी में दाग' इस गीत को हरमोनियम पर गाएं या बजाएं तो आपको उसको सुनने से पता लगेगा कि उसमें जो आपको धुन सुनाई देती है, वह राग भैरवी के सवरों की धुन होती है। वैसे पता चलता है कि लागा चुनरी में दाग गीत राग भैरवी पर आधारित है, इसके बाद अगर आपने राग यमन बड़ी अच्छी तरह से गाना और बजाना सीखा होगा और उसकी धुन आपके दिमाग में होगी तो आप एक और गीत सुनिए चंदन सा बदन चंचल चितवन धीरे से तेरा ये मुस्काना जब आप इस गीत को सुनेंगे तो आप को बड़ी आसानी से पता चल जाएगा कि ये गीत राग यमन पर आधारित है।
